Valery Shkaruba

Biography

Valery Shkaruba was born in 1957 in Borisof, in the Minsk region of the Republic of Belarus. In 1978 he completed his studies at the Belarus Art Institute, now the Academy of Fine Arts.

Since 1983, he has been taking part in numerous exhibitions, both at home and abroad. He has been a member of the Printer's Union of the former USSR since 1989 and in 1998 he was awarded the Painter's Union medal. In 2001, the Chinese Government sponsored an exhibition of his work in Peking and has commissioned a large painting by the artist.

His work can be found at the National Museum in Belarus, the Museum of Modern Art, the Brest Museum, the Foundation of Belorussian Painters, the Ministry for Ecology in the Aegean Sea in Athens, Greece and in numerous private collections around the world.

Valery Shkaruba's realist style guides the viewer through a romantic vision of his native land. His paintings have a subtle quality of light and achieve an extraordinary balance between fine detail and movement.
